2009-10 TASL Annual Giving Message

Thanks to the generous support of our donors and to the vision and heart of our own dedicated TASL leaders, we have been able to achieve the ambitious goals we set out for 2009.

Our popular TASL Internship program, begun four years ago, now boasts eight graduates. This highly competitive Michigan college senior/graduate student paid internship program, offers hands-on training alongside mentor and experienced athletic administrator, TASL President Meg Seng. Our customized coaching and mentoring has an impressive track record: Five of the eight TASL interns are in sport management careers today. Two are in college coaching.

Our collaboration with the Girl Scouts of Michigan means a new Coaching badge can now be earned by young girl scouts, aged 7 to 11, in our state. Among the many activities to merit the badge: conducting interviews with local coaches about best safety practices and learning about how to motivate team members with differing skills.

Our flagship progam, the TASL Future Coaches Camp was held for the seventh year in June. Video highlights of this year's camp show the energy, camaraderie and individual attention that our campers find memorable. We are proud to say there are now 54 TASL camp alumnae in Michigan and across the country.

We hear from several of them every now and again--from short text messages catching us up on what they are doing--to handwritten notes thanking us for new insights the Future Coaches Camp gave to them. "Coaching little kids 4 a rec dept this summer! " one alum recently texted us. And, "Thank you so much for all your work in starting the Academy. It was an incredible experience and I learned more than I thought was possible," another alum wrote.

With ebullience and gratitude expressed like that, who wouldn't be motivated to aspire higher?

To accomplish what we believe will move us forward in the upcoming year, not only do we have program goals. We also have a financial goal. TASL would like to raise $15,000 in new funding. With this amount, we can triple our outreach for our flagship, the 2010 Future Coaches Camp. And we can initiate our longstanding plan to make available online a few of TASL's most valuable coaching training and education units to our website.

So, join us as we continue to afford young women in Michigan new opportunities to make their distinctive mark in our sport economy and in sport education: as coaches and the leaders of the next generation.
