Creating Leaders For Equal Play

For many future coaches, this four-day summer residential camp-held in Ann Arbor-is the starting point of a long-term process that includes mentoring, networking and career pathway assistance. Open to all high school juniors who have shown a strong interest in athletics, the Future Coaches Camp offers an intensive, challenging and inspirational experience. Successful women coaches from throughout Michigan offer campers a broad curriculum that includes topics such as:

  • Coaching skills, tactics and strategies
  • Social and psychological aspects of coaching
  • Training, conditioning and nutrition
  • Injuries - Prevention, care and maintenance
  • Growth, development and learning
  • Teaching and administration
  • Risk management
  • Professional development

Campers also have an opportunity to experience the team-building Challenge Program at the University of Michigan and to interact with a panel of distinguished collegiate coaches.

Offered in conjunction with Ann Arbor Greenhills School, these paid internships offer college-age female athletes an opportunity to strengthen their management and administrative skills within a school setting, under the guidance of a practicing professional. Assignments are wide-ranging and typically involve event planning, research, marketing and fundraising, and program evaluation. Interns also assist in the day-to-day administration of the Greenhills athletic program. In addition to hands-on training, participants have the opportunity to develop a network of professional contacts. This kind of direct, daily interaction with successful coaches and their students has proven to be extremely beneficial in preparing young women for careers in sport management and coaching.
